Having an air tight house in the fall and winter months here in Bellingham (Lynden, Blaine, Sumas, Ferndale Etc) and Whatcom County will help keep your heating bills to a minimum!
1: Check weather stripping around doors and windows. If you can see light around a closed door or window, improvement is needed. Installing or replacing old weather stripping is an inexpensive and easy way to keep the chills where they belong, OUTSIDE!
2: Replace somke alarm batteries and add carbon monoxide monitors. If your home uses gas/propane for any appliances or has an aggached garage. (They are also needed if you burn wood).
3: Other plumbing issues to check. If you have “frost free” hose faucets, turn water in faucets off or insulate them at interior & exterior. Remove all hoses. Even if you have “frost free” faucets, frezzing water from hose can damage lines if there is left over water in hose.
Hopefully these tips will help you keep your home winter proof, which will save you money during the colder weather of our Pacific Northwest Fall/Winter season. I will follow up with another set of cold weather tips soon, so keep checking in.
